Workshop Valestrand 2011:

Culture Church – a space for poetry?

Poetry is more than poems. Poetry can appear in all forms of art and reflect many
aspects of life. What is the church’s own poetry? How can culture churches facilitate
poetic experience in cooperation with professional artists?

Nov 8.-10. are important days for all involved in arts-church-cooperation!

This workshop will give inspiration and stimulating dialogues in the context of
Valestrand Culture Church on the beautiful west coast of Norway.

From the program:

- Dancer and choreographer Solveig Styve Holte will present a work-in-progress
performance based on cooperative work with local children.
- Visual artist Barbro Raen Thomassen will present her embellishment and
installation-work from different Norwegian churches.
- Writer and leader of a culture church Erik Hillestad will speak and introduce
discussions during the workshop.
- Curator and director Horst Konietzny from München will lead the main workshops
for artists and facilitators. His experience is from performing arts, visual arts and
music, and this is how he presents his plans for the two different group:

“What I would like to dispute during the workshops is how art and spirituality can
nourish each other. I’d like to focus on artistic strategies to deal with AWARENESS”

“I would like to explain my curatorial decisions and deal with practical questions
regarding the programming of art events in churches”

Our locations will be Valestrand kulturkyrkje and Grand Hotel Stord.
